Abstract

The measure of [3H]Choline ([3H]Ch) efflux from preloaded brain slices is considered a valid method for studying cholinergic function. At variance with the assay of endogenous acetylcholine (ACh) this procedure gives an index of the release process in the absence of esterase inhibition, thus excluding the dampening of the autoreceptor-mediated negative feedback (4, 6, 7).
