Neurotransmitters That Act on Cholinergic Magnocellular Forebrain Nuclei Influence Cortical Acetylcholine Output

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Behavioral Biology ((ABBI,volume 30))

Abstract

The amount of acetylcholine (ACh) released from the nerve endings depends upon the impulse flow within the cortical cholinergic network. The collection of ACh diffusing from the cortical surface makes it possible therefore to measure indirectly the activity of cholinergic neurons (24).
