Abstract

Various groups have recently reported on the existence of atrial natriuretic peptides (ANP) in secretorylike granules present in the myocytes of mammalian atria. These newly isolated peptides include the atrial natriuretic factors (ANF) (Grammer et al., 1983; Thibault et al., 1983a,b, 1984; Lazure et al., 1984; Napier et al., 1984a; Seidah et al., 1984), atrial natriuretic polypeptides (Atlas et al., 1984; Kangawa and Matsuo, 1984), auriculins (Atlas et al., 1984), atriopeptins (Currie et al., 1983, 1984; Geller et al., 1984), cardionatrins (deBold and Flynn, 1983; deBold and Salerno, 1983; Flynn et al., 1983), and cardiodilatin (Frossman et al., 1983; Lazure et al., 1984).
