Immunological Approaches to Contraception: The Need, Basic Premise, and Overview
The world population is increasing at a rapid pace. It stood at one billion in 1830, the next billion was attained in 1930, the third in 1957, the fourth in 1979 and at current projections the figure is expected to pass the six billion mark by the year 2000. In the closing two decades of this century, half as many more people will be added to the global habitation as the number accumulated since the origin of man until the year 1980. This rate of expansion is bound to impose considerable strain on resources such as food, housing, jobs, and other social amenities; especially because 90 percent of the increase will be in economically developing countries.
