The barium swallow has long been the radiographic method of choice for evaluation of lesions of the esophagus or in the evaluation of patients presenting with dysphagia. This examination still remains the primary screening procedure although recently other diagnostic imaging modalities have been utilized to supplement the findings on fluoroscopic examinations.
