Overview of the Halsted-Reitan Battery

Abstract

In 1987 the Halstead Tests will be 40 years old. What has happened over the nearly four decades of their use? Certainly there is little doubt that the Halstead Neuropsychological Test Battery, now in the form of the Halstead-Reitan Battery (HRB), is the most widely used neuropsychological test battery in the United States and Canada. It has earned the respect of not only most psychologists but many representatives of the allied disciplines, such as neurologists, neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, pediatricians, rehabilitation workers, and the like. To a great extent the rise of clinical neuropsychology as an identifiable specialty has been concomitant with the increased establishment of neuropsychological laboratories in which the HRB has played an integral role (Parsons, 1984).
