Thank you very much, Dr, Hollaender. I think that it is a marvelous opportunity for all of us to be at this session, which is chaired by Alexander Hollaender, who is certainly one of the monumental figures in American and international science. This year, Alex has received the Enrico Fermi Award which is the highest honor of the U.S. Department of Energy, indeed it is one of the highest scientific honors that can be bestowed in this country. I cannot image that anyone is more deserving of this award than Alex, and he joins the illustrious company of previous award winners, which included people like John von Neumann and many of the great luminaries of atomic energy research in America. Alex, we are all incredibly impressed at your vitality. I think what has impressed me about you over the years is that your eyes are on the future, and I think that no higher compliment can be paid to a scientist than that. I am certain that Alex knows the answer to the question: Where the future? The only accurate statement that I can make about the future is that it lies ahead.
