Trophic and Myogenic Effects with Special Reference to Transferrin
Chick myogenic cells grow and differentiate in vitro when incubated with a medium composed of Eagle’s MEM, horse serum and a small amount of chick embryo extract (EE). However, they do not grow, when incubated with a medium composed of Eagle’s MEM and horse serum (basal medium). This indicates that EE contains essential substance(s) for chick myogenic cell growth, which is contained in neither the artificial medium nor horse serum.
