Abstract

The purposes of this talk will be to outline several general “rules” that are useful for studying myotrophic factors, and to provide a brief synopsis of the studies being carried out in our lab to determine how specific growth factors regulate skeletal muscle differentiation. In presenting these “rules,” the hope is to provide a set of guidelines that may help to clarify the interpretation of data which is rapidly accumulating from the many different laboratories now studying myogenesis in vitro.
