Abstract

These are exciting times in the development of our knowledge of the regulation of an important glycolytic enzyme—pyruvate kinase. A series of excellent laboratories are working in this area. This chapter concentrates on those agents that appear to invoke a chronic change in the total enzyme levels of pyruvate kinase. For an in-depth discussion of the acute regulation of pyruvate kinase activity via phosphorylation mechanisms, several excellent reviews are available (see refs. 1–3).
