Abstract
Trophoblast neoplasm is a common disease in Nigeria and this has been confirmed by previous workers (1, 2, 3). Choriocarcinoma is the third most common cancer in Nigeria, after cancer of the cervix and of the breast. Having realized the significance of this tumor, which fortunately is invariably curable if treated promptly, much attention is now focused on its epidemiology. Although racial incidence of this disease is undisputed, its etiology has in the past been linked with external factors including viral (4), chemical (5), dietary (6, 7), and genetic (8, 9). It has also been suggested (9) that trophoblastic neoplasms may be attributed to immune mechanisms.
