Yankee Plant NRV Closure Analysis

Abstract

Yankee Atomic Electric Company has applied the RETRAN1 code to licensing and other analysis support of operating plants for the past several years. The MMS2 code under development by EPRI was obtained on a pre-release basis for evaluation as a system’s analysis tool complementing RETRAN. A MMS model was developed to, as closely as possible, parallel the RETRAN model3. The purpose of this effort was to evaluate MMS and determine its advantages and limitations compared to RETRAN. The transient studied is a non-return valve (main steam isolation valve) closure at power for which actual plant data is available.
