EPRI/NSAC’s Approach for Tackling Current Safety Issues

  • Bill Layman

The Nuclear Safety Analysis Center of EPRI carries out a generic safety analysis program to support the utility industry in evaluating the importance of significant generic safety problems of potentially high consequence. These problems generally have the following characteristics:
  1. 1.

Elements of the problem are common to several plants.

  2. 2.

The issue is potentially of high consequence, even though of low probability.

  3. 3.

A comprehensive and sophisticated analysis is required.

  4. 4.

The problem solutions have plant design relevance over the long term.

The program entails tracking, evaluation and in-depth analyses.
