High Pressure Cooling System Malfunction
On June 26, 1980, Unit One of the E.I. Hatch Nuclear Plant experienced a reactor scram coincident with a temporary loss of the feedwater system and the high pressure coolant systems. The unit transient response is presented in order to highlight the conditions faced by the control room operators.
Findings of followup investigations and critiques are described. The effectiveness of the resulting corrective measures are demonstrated by the description of the subsequent plant operating experience.
