Part of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety book series (CJPS)

So commonplace has crime become that many tend to be fatalistic about it, accepting it as “natural and normal” for contemporary society and feeling that nothing really can be done about it. Many read horrific accounts of gross criminal violations as if they were tales from a distant land, not real events happening in our own real world and threatening us and our way of life. Many are pessimistic about opportunities for coping with the situation.
