Abstract
We present a fully-quantum-mechanical theory of the intracavity interaction of coherent light with semiconductors. It is assumed that the interaction occurs via excitons and discussion is limited to a two-band semiconductor. The interaction between the light field and the semiconductor excites an electron from the filled valence band to the conduction band and thus creates an exciton.
