Constraints on Pion Condensates and Precursors from Nuclear Spin-Isospin Excitations

We discuss connections between the quenching of spin-isospin transitions at low momentum transfer, the absence of pion condensates, and the structure of nuclear spin-isospin correlations from an intermediate energy physics point of view in a picture where nuclei consist of nucleons, Δ(1232) isobars and mesons.
