Opening Remarks: Basic Quark Considerations
All of us, in the days when we were studying nuclear physics, heard about Gamow-Teller transitions. Recently with the experiments using (p,n) reaction and other reactions, there has been a revived interest in Gamow-Teller strength and, in fact, there is a big question of where is the missing Gamow-Teller strength or why is it missing? Our first speaker may not be able to tell us where it has gone, but he can certainly tell us where the idea came from. It is my pleasure to introduce Dr. Edward Teller.
