Intensive Hospital Psychotherapy of Schizophrenia
Psychiatry in the past two decades, more dynamically and analytically focused, and treatment oriented, has centered increasing interest in the active psychotherapeutic treatment of the younger schizophrenics. This group of patients, heretofore considered most difficult to treat both from the standpoint of management and therapeutic results, is coming to our attention for treatment in ever increasing numbers. In the last few years, however, the analytic approach has been somewhat compromised in favor of the emphasis on the biological aspects of schizophrenia and emphasis on short term and less constrictive treatments. There is no question, however, that the patient and his or her psychiatric condition is a function of a biological-social-cultural milieu.
