Behavioral Psychotherapy of Neuroses

  • Leslie Solyom

Neurosis can be spoken of as a collection of symptoms and / or a hypothetical construct — a central state. In referring to the latter we usually imply underlying factors, a conflict or anlage, which is then a source of abundant symptoms. In order to effect a permanent change, we endeavour to resolve this conflict. We make, therefore, the assumption that symptom removal only would leave this hypothetical construct intact.
