Electron-Photon Correlation Studies of Spin Exchange, Spin Orbit and Quantum Beats

Abstract

Electron impact studies, both theoretical and experimental, have played an important part in our understanding in the field of atomic physics. The electron provides a useful probe into the region of the electron cloud surrounding the atom. Amongst the most notable examples in electron collision studies which can be thought of are the Franck-Hertz experiment proving the quantised nature of energy loss in collisions between electrons and atoms, the Ramsauer-Townsend effect in the structure of scattering cross-sections and electron spin effects in Mott scattering.
