Abstract

About half a century has passed after the publication of Hartree’s1 and Fock’s2 papers on the self-consistent field method and Bloch’s and Jensen’s3,4 — on the collective sound-like vibrations of electrons in atoms. For more than fifty years our ideas have developed on single-particle and collective aspects of electron motion in atoms.
