Abstract

In 1813 Thomas Sutton described the condition characterized by disorientation of different levels, agitation, fear, hallucinations and neurological and vegetative disturbances. This condition is a specific acute neuropsychological disturbance in which patients have paradoxically cheerful faces1,2. Six years later, in 1819, Rayer unambiguously determined this condition as strictly connected with alcohol intake2.
