Abstract

Peptidoglycans are typical constituents of bacterial cell walls, with a basic structure in common [1]. They are composed of glycan chains, which are built of alternatingN-acetylglucosamine andN-acetylmuramic acid residues, and peptide units which are made up of alternating L- and D-amino acids.
