Macrophage Oxidative Metabolism: A Defense Mechanism Against Virus Infection?

There is ample evidence that macrophages (M0) are intrinsically resistant to infection by a number of viruses in vitro and are important in providing resistance to virus infection in vivo (1). In neither case are the mechanisms of viral resistance engendered by macrophages understood at the molecular level.
