Abstract

In Japan, resistance to organic insecticides in the house fly, Musca domestica, was first reported by Yasutomi (1956) and Tsukamoto et al. (1957) who confirmed that house flies in Hikone were not sufficiently controlled with DDT in 1954. Soon afterward, house flies resistant to lindane and dieldrin were collected from several areas where the chemicals had been sprayed often (Suzuki et al., 1958), and in 1960, diazinon-resistant house flies were found in some areas near Tokyo, but the cross resistance to dichlorvos and malathion was indistinct (Suzuki et al., 1961). Similar occurrences were observed by Oshima et al. (1963) and Yokohama and Ohtaki (1965) in Saitama Prefecture.
