Like many other reports on biologic discoveries, porphyrin localization by tumor tissues has been described at 10–20 year intervals with the first report appearing in 1924. During the current cycle, appropriate instrumentation was available so that the phenomenon could be translated into clinical practice. Collaboration and exchange of information between workers in many disciplines will be required for further development of what has come to be called Photo-radiation Therapy (PRT). Since clinical application of tumor localization is so recent, opportunities for such collaboration has been limited.
