Abstract

For over fifteen years, the literature has described many critical care computer systems developed in both research and clinical environments of hospitals and universities throughout the world. Various government agencies have made grants totaling in the tens of millions of dollars to support research in the use of computers in critical care. There certainly have been some notable successes, but there have been only a few isolated cases of transference of technology from one institution to another. We will examine why technology has not been transferred later in this paper.
