Abstract

The flux of surface atoms (J) is according to the Nernst-Einstein relation given by the gradient of the chemical potential ∂µ/∂x

\(J=\frac{n.D}{k.T}\frac{\partial \mu }{\partial x}\)

n = number of diffusing atoms per cm2

D = surface diffusion coefficient

x = distance along the surface.
