The New Zealand Government is actively involved in a program for converting 150,000 motor vehicles, about 10 percent of our total fleet, to CNG by the end of 1985. The program began formally in mid-1979 when the target was announced by the Minister of Energy. In describing, from the Government’s viewpoint, progress and problems with our program I am conscious that some aspects are specific to the New Zealand scene. However, I hope there is sufficient wider relevance to make this sharing of our experiences worthwhile.
