Behavior and Attitudes of the Homosexuals

Abstract

Since there is much exploitation of homosexuals in prison, and since the pervasive behavior in prison to some degree is homosexual in nature, we decided to study prison homosexuals in greater detail. Our discussion in Chapter 4 pointed out that self-identified homosexuals comprised slightly over 10% of our total random sample. If we conservatively used this figure as representative of the percentage of homosexuals in prison (a figure that is often used as representative of the percentage of homosexuals in American society as a whole), then 10% of the total prison population of 2400 men would be approximately 240 men who are homosexuals. We were successful in sampling one-third of this estimated total group.
