Computerized Thermal Property Testing

Abstract

Composite materials are widely used at McDonnell Douglas Corporation (MDC) for aircraft, missile, and satellite production. More specifically, composites have been used for the manufacture of the F-15 Eagle, F-18 Hornet, AV-8B advanced V/STOL light attack aircraft, and the aft propulsion system for the space shuttle. Due to the increased use of composites, it is necessary that accurate data be obtained from thermal expansion and thermal conductivity testing. In response to this need, a microcomputer has been linked to these tests to provide more accurate, reliable data.
