Nuclear Safety: Its Achievement in Perspective
Commercial use of nuclear power production in Germany started in 1961 with the commissioning of the 17 MWe boiling water reactor VAK. Currently, 14 reactors are in operation with approximately 9 GWe, 11 are being constructed with about 13 GWe, and 10 are projected with another 12 GWe. This would roughly meet the energy goals set forth by the Federal Government which aim for 30 GWe by 1985.
