Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to lay the groundwork for an integrative conceptual model for the treatment of marital discord. It is assumed that each of the treatment models reviewed in previous chapters offers a valuable contribution to the conceptualization and treatment of marital discord. However, each model, in and of itself, is only a partial theory of treatment. What is needed is a model that integrates intrapsychic, interpersonal, and behavioral data. Such an integration will necessitate diversions into various unrelated areas in order to forge the necessary conceptual linkages.
