Solitons in the One-Dimensional Planar Ferromagnet CsNiF3

Abstract

Neutron inelastic scattering has been used to study the spectrum Si(q, ω) of spin fluctuations perpendicular to a magnetic field applied in the easy plane of the one-dimensional ferromagnet CSNiF3. It is shown that the observed central peak can be described in terms of the independent-soliton model proposed by Mikeska. In the geometry used there is no contribution to the observed scattering from the two-magnon processes which have been proposed as an alternative explanation of the central peak found in Sii(q,ω)).
