Abstract
Rational behavior therapy (RBT) is a comprehensive, culture-free, shortterm, cognitive-behavior therapy. It is comprehensive because it deals directly with all three groups of learned behaviors: the cognitive, the emotive, and the physical. An ever increasing body of research indicates that RBT is helpful to people regardless of race, cultural values, or lifestyle (Brandsma, Maultsby, & Welsh, 1979; Maultsby, 1975a; Maultsby, Costello, & Carpenter, 1976; Maultsby & Graham, 1974; Maultsby, Winkler, & Norton, 1975; Patton, 1976; Ross, 1978; Ruhnow, 1977; Schwager, 1975). In Chapter 3, I attempted to show why culture-free psychotherapy is essential for efficient, effective psychotherapy for black Americans.
