Childhood and Adolescent Suicidal Behavior with an Emphasis on Girls

Abstract

Disturbances in the processes of development that lead to suicidal behavior among girls have not been systematically studied. The concepts discussed in this chapter were derived from a literature review and my many years of experience in treating suicidal latency-age children and adolescents. A developmental and psychoanalytic framework is used here to make a comparison of suicidal latency-age and adolescent girls and of suicidal girls and boys.
