Serologic Tests for Human Cytomegalovirus Infections

Part of the Current Topics in Infectious Disease book series (CTID)

In this chapter we consider the various serologic tests that have been described for the diagnosis of CMV infection. The principles and background of each test will be presented along with its utility. The specific problem of strain and type variation of human CMV is treated in Chapter 5. The technical details of each procedure will not be described, as they have been admirably updated elsewhere (Lennette and Schmidt, 1979). Tests for cellular immunity against CMV and their changes during and after various infections are described in Chapter 7.
