As discussed in Chapter 2, the criteria for assigning the name “cytomegalovirus” to a herpesvirus discovered in animals other than man are not entirely clear-cut and appear to be in the process of evaluation. I have decided not to review comprehensively all the so-called cytomegaloviruses of other animals; such a review properly belongs to a separate treatise or to one on herpesviruses.
