Acquired Cytomegalovirus Infection and the Mononucleosis Syndrome

Acquired cytomegalovirus infection may be asymptomatic, or produce a mononucleosis syndrome. Variants of the latter may be pneumonitis, hepatitis, or involvement of the nervous system. Recently acquired CMV infection has been implicated in a complex disease syndrome in homosexual males (Section 10.5).
