History of Human Cytomegalovirus
The history of cytomegalovirus (CMV) may be divided into two periods. During the first period, the characteristic cytopathology caused by this virus was recognized and described. It may be called the “period of cytopathology.” The second period was initiated by the isolation of the virus and may be called the “virological period.”
