On the Possibility of a Direct Automatic Inversion of D.C. Geoelectric Data
A method suitable for the direct automatic inversion of D.C. geoelectrical data is proposed. The aim is the interpretation of data pertaining to underground structures of arbitrary shape. Complicated structures present considerable difficulties if they are interpreted by means of indirect procedures, based on the search for a best fit between the field data and a theoretical model. The mathematical problem involved in direct inversion is a nonlinear one; it has been tackled by means of a linearization procedure; based on successive approximations. Some topics of practical interest, concerning the handling of a great number of data, and the influence of too strong geological surface noises are discussed.
