Pion-Nuclear Many Body Problems

Abstract

Pionic modes of excitation in nuclear systems have received considerable experimental and theoretical interest in recent years. Vast amounts of pion-nucleus scattering data1 have been produced at the meson factories, the analysis of which has provided information about the “optical” branches of the pion-nuclear excitation spectrum, where the propagation of Δ (1232) isobars and their interaction with the nuclear environment is one of the outstanding issues2-6, and will be one of the subjects of these lectures.
