Abstract

A full understanding of the propagation of bounded pulses in dispersive media is fundamental to most developments in ultrasonic imaging and materials characterisation. Our interests lie in the medical applications of ultrasound, and, since it is by no means easy to make direct measurements of the fields in tissues, it may be argued that theoretical predictions are at least as useful as time-consuming and delicate measurements conducted within synthetic tissue-like materials.
