Abstract
There has been great interest in the last years in understanding basic principles of neuronal processing of simple and complex sounds, i.e. pure tones and species-specific vocalizations, related to the functional organization of auditory nuclei. Most investigations have focused on the mammalian auditory system, where a tono-topic organization of most nuclei in the auditory pathway could be shown.
