Abstract
In this chapter I should like to describe the saga of the discovery of the hypothalamic neurohormones that regulate the secretion of anterior pituitary hormones, discuss the current status of their chemistry and the factors that influence their release, and allude briefly to some possible clinical applications of these neurohormones. I shall try to present the current status of this rapidly advancing field but shall not document all statements with references. Instead, I shall provide key references, mostly to reviews, that should enable the interested student to delve further into the literature.
