Dr. Goodrich has given us an excellent description of the two major ways that family therapy training can get introduced into psychiatric training. I want to delineate three main influences that impact on this change:
  1. (a)

There is the administrative and financial support that is available and the commitment to it of the training director and the person in charge of the institution.

  2. (b)

It will be influenced by the population of patients being served and the commitment of the institution to that population.

  3. (c)

It will be determined by certain aspects of the ideology of the institution.
