Physico-Chemical Processes in Rock Salt under Irradiation

Abstract

We have investigated both color center formation and thermoluminescence techniques as possible tools for determining radiation doses absorbed by γ-irradiated rock salt. Experiments were performed with rock salt samples taken from two different deposits in the USSR Caspian region. Experimental conditions simulated the high dose and temperatures typical (1) of those expected for storage of high level nuclear wastes in salt strata.
