Abstract
Natural foods are the best method of supplying energy and basic requirements to humans. In disease states, however, patients may not be able to ingest, assimilate, or absorb enough nutrients from foods to maintain body weight or vital functions. Then supplementation of nutrients is necessary. Our understanding of diet support for maintenance or therapy has advanced greatly during the past decade.
