Peer Behavior and Mother-Infant Interaction in Maltreated Children

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Genesis of Behavior ((GOBE,volume 3))

Abstract

Our interest in maltreated infants stems from two concerns: one theoretical, the other practical. From a theoretical point of view we are interested in the interdependence of early social experiences, more specifically, the effect of the mother-child relationship on other social relationships. From a practical point of view, we are interested in how one might intervene in the lives of maltreated children so as to ameliorate the potentially harmful effects of a poor parent-child relationship.

We wish to thank the staff of the Millhill Family and Child Care Center of Trenton, New Jersey for their cooperation, and in particular Ms. Andree Newsome, Director.
